MOVERS & HELPERS
POSITION SUMMARY
Manually move household and office furniture, freight, or other materials or perform other general labor as directed by supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Move furniture and other materials to and from storage areas, households, offices, loading docks, delivery vehicles, and containers, by hand or using proper moving equipment.
- Pack containers and wrap goods using pads, packing paper, and containers, and help secure loads in trailers.
- Install protective devices, such as bracing, padding, or strapping, to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported.
- Sort furniture and packages before loading to ensure proper placement throughout the truck.
- Attach identifying tags to containers, or mark them with identifying information.
- Attach slings, hooks, and other devices to lift cargo and guide loads.
- Carry needed tools and supplies from storage or trucks, and return them after use.
- Load and unload trucks, using dollies, winches and other moving devices.
- Guide loads being lifted in order to prevent swinging.
- Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments and material and equipment needs.
- Record numbers of units handled and moved, using daily production sheets or work tickets.
- Maintain equipment storage areas to ensure that inventory is protected.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Less than high school education and/or no prior experience necessary.
- Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift/carry a minimum of 75 lbs. on a continuous basis. Constant walking, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy objects such as furniture and boxes.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work environment is indoors and outdoors, at customer locations such as businesses and private homes. Some warehouse work may be required. Climate is dependent upon weather conditions, (heat, cold, humidity).
